Emergency update to server

Hi

The Register partner has scheduled a emergency upgrade to move to a new rack in our data center on 22/5/2014, 13:00, during the following maintenance window, with the move lasting up to 1 hour:

Start: Thursday 22 May 2014 13:00
End: Thursday 22 May 2014: 16:00

Our data center partner is performing this move in order to improve data center power and cooling performance, which will increase the server's reliability.

The server will be manually shutdown just prior to the move to ensure there is no data corruption on the server. Our announcement portal will at http://blog.myvdh.com be kept updated with the current status of the move.

Spamhaus Listing - 2014-01-22

Dear Customers,

Yesterday, one of the third party external spam registries called 'Spamhaus' misconfigured their spam systems and caused thousands of POP email servers around the world to be blocked by mistake. Although the datacentre do feel this listing was done in error, the datacentre have made some additional improvements to the outbound spam scanning to further reduce the number of spam messages that get by the filters

As a result of the misconfiguration of Spamhaus, Spamhaus would unknowingly block POP emails from reaching the companies that use Spamhaus.

The dataentre are also trying to reach out to Spamhaus.org to obtain more information about why this msconfiguration has occurred as the datacentre still feel it was done in error. Unfortunately Spamhaus do not provide any public contacts, so the datacentre are trying to see if they can find another way to contact them and work through this issue with them.

Spamhaus does not have a phone number and they only correspond via email.

Our datacentres and other datacentres globally have been consistently emailing Spamhaus to request that they correct this.

We are still awaiting new updates from Spamhaus.

Email senders using Enterprise Microsoft Exchange Servers are not affected by this.

WordPress Security Updates

Dear Customers

We wanted to take this time to pass along information regarding serious security vulnerabilities recently discovered in two very popular WordPress plugins. They are:

- WP Super Cache
- W3 Total Cache

These plugins have been reported as having a security hole that allows a hacker to control your WordPress installation by using a method called Remote Code Execution, which in this case is fairly simple to exploit. The good news is that the developers of both plugins have released a security update, disabling the vulnerable functions.

Customers that are running WordPress, with WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache installed, should immediately log in to their WordPress administration panel and upgrade the plugins as soon as possible in order to prevent the vulnerability from being exploited. Please note that if you have the plugins installed but they are not activated, it is still imperative that you update them, or delete them entirely.

Unscheduled Security Maintenance across multiple servers

Multiple servers are experiencing connectivity issues with the web server (HTTP) due to high server load and this issue is being investigated at this moment.

High server load issues with the servers are primarily due to a network attack.

During this outage, your websites will not be available. All other services are online and available. We apologize for this inconvenience and we will continue providing updates as soon as possible.

We are noticing that Joomla sites are among many of the sites being attacked across our server fleet. We will be adding more countermeasures to mitigate these attacks.

Press Release: Spam Register Directive

Dear Customers,

Based on a recent directive from the Spam Register, the datacentres are required to enforce a strong password policy across the board.

What the Spam Register needs your email users to do:

1. Passwords need to be at least 18 characters in length with both uppercase and lowercase characters, and also include numbers and symbols.
2. Change and update all email users' password on regularly basis - every quarterly.
3. Use a different password for different login.
4. Check computers for virus and trojans regularly.
5. Ensure all web applications and scripts (Wordpress, Joomla etc) are up-to-date.

The system machine (SYSOPS) will create accounts based on the requirement of having at least 18 characters in length with both uppercase and lowercase characters, and also include numbers and symbols.

The Spam Register is doing this to enhance overall protection of the Internet community, email users, to minimize Spam abuse by hackers, to minimize blacklisting RBL.

Update: Exchange domains 21 through 28 are up and running. We are still working on getting part of domain 29 back online.

Business Impact:
Some users on west029 may experience sporadic disconnects with all clients as well as incoming and outgoing mail delays. Users on domains west021-west028 should now be able to use services as normal.

Technical Details:
The Exchange Cloud Sever system administrators are actively working on fixing the issue with west029 database, we will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Unscheduled Network Maintenance Notice

Dear Customer,

During routine network maintenance of the datacentre, the Upstream Provider has identified that one of the internet data traffic gateway has under gone a DDOS attack.

- What does this mean? 
Because of this, the Tier-One Internet Backbone Upstream Provider has began unscheduled network maintenance to the respective network node to divert the traffic away.

- What happens next? 
The Upstream Provider is undergoing the unscheduled network maintenance to ensure proper data integrity of the network.

They will notify the datacentre upon new update.

The updates will be posted here to inform of any status change.

Shared Email Server versus Microsoft Enterprise Cloud Exchange 2013 Cloud Email Hosting

Who monitors spam on the internet?

Spam registers are governing agencies monitoring spam on the internet.

There are many different spam registers on the internet.

Different email recipients use different spam registers

Why are there 'bounce notices'?

This is something that datacenters round the world occasionally need to deal with on occasion for shared servers, however we do have procedures in place when this type of issue does occur.

With this being a shared servers environment, this means that resources and ip address of the servers are shared by all company accounts on the servers and this includes the servers "mail reputation".

While usually this is not an issue on a day-to-day use, there are a few cases that may lead to this occurring:

1. On occasion a user on the same server may experience an issue, such as an account compromise (for example from a poor email password/a script not being kept up to date) and a spammer may use this as a means to send out spam.

2. A user may misconfiguration a mail list and accidentally send to a large number of users on one provider, resulting in that provider reporting them as a spammer.

3. Someone knowingly sends spam on purpose, which we have specific rules against, and in these cases when we find out we will deal with them.

4. The spam registers of the recipient's domain undergo an upgrade and the security settings are changed, which in turn affects some senders like yourself.

The most common cause is #1, and when we find such cases we work with the account owner in and attempt to resolve such issues.

How we help you handle 'bouce notices' 

While our datacenters (and many other datacenters) have internal monitoring to attempt to watch for such cases to occur, and we attempt to work with the blacklisting spam registers to reach a "common ground". The spam registers as well as our datacenters do not want spammers on our network, some spam registers are more aggressive in how quickly they may block a server ip address.

When there is one of the above scenarios, our "abuse" department contacts the blacklisting spam registers and requests a delist from them, and will then keep you updated on the status.

A temporary solution when the above occurs
In the meantime, if you have any urgent emails to send to this recipient, you could temporarily use a Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo account to send first.

An alternative business email solution for the long-run

Currently, you are using email technology known as POP email, and POP email have limitations like the above.

In the long-run, company could consider upgrading to the Microsoft Enterprise Cloud Exchange 2013 Email.

The Cloud Exchange 2013 Email is more advanced and can reduce such scenarios.

This enterprise-grade email solution is used by businesses who have outgrown the POP email.

One of the datacentre server experienced a service failure recently resulting in the need for us to perform a reboot. As a result, the datacentre is scheduling maintenance to perform a manual file system check (FSCK) to ensure there is not data corruption on the hard drives.The datacentre do not anticipate the scheduled outage taking more than a couple hours barring major problems being detected by the FSCK. It will be doing this maintenance during the following window:

Scheduled Maintenance: March 14, 9PM

Dear Customer,

Our data center is going to be performing scheduled maintenance, adding an additional backup power generator, and introducing new parallel switchgear, to help improve backup power capabilities in the event of a power outage. While no downtime is anticipated for your server, this notification is being provided to you in the case that there is a brief outage for your server, or DNS servers. We will post updates here if any issues arise for your specific the datacentre. In the event that power is lost to your server and downtime occurs, it is expected to be less than 30 minutes during the maintenance window:

End: Friday, March 15, 2013 6:00 AM SGT

These additions to the backup power facilities provide additional backup power in the event of power loss to the data center, and will provide huge benefits in the future should a catastrophic event ever take place in the area.

  • Proven track records of sales.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with high energy level as well as strong self motivational drive.
  • 1-2 years Working experience with I.T services and telemarketing experience.

Remuneration: Remuneration depends on working experience, earn up to $10,000 to $20,000 a month with performance bonus when applicable.
